Family caregiver survey rating for hospice agencies
The Family caregiver survey rating uses a 5-star scale to make it easier for you to compare hospices. More stars mean better quality care. The star ratings come from the Family caregiver experience survey, also called the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) Hospice survey.
The survey:
- Collects information from family caregivers on hospice care experiences using 6 domains and 2 global measures of care.
- The 6 domains are:
- Communication with family
- Getting timely help
- Treating patient with respect
- Emotional and spiritual support
- Help for pain and symptoms
- Training family to care for patient
- The 2 global measures of care are:
- Rating of this hospice
- Willingness to recommend this hospice
- The Family caregiver survey rating summarizes reported experiences with care among people responding to the survey for each hospice.
Use the Family caregiver survey ratings along with other quality information when making decisions about choosing a hospice. A 1-star rating doesn't mean that you'll get poor care from a hospice. It means that hospices that got 2 or more stars performed better on these particular measures of family caregiver experience of care. If a hospice doesn't have a Family caregiver survey rating, it means that the hospice didn't have enough surveys to have ratings calculated in a meaningful way. It doesn't mean that there is something wrong with the hospice.
